Il Canovaccio come spazio dedito alla lavorazione della cartapesta nasce nel giugno 1995, frutto di un'esperienza decennale nel settore sfociata nella necessità di trovare uno spazio non solo espositivo e di vendita ma dove ci si potesse, anche e soprattutto, render conto di come avviene la lavorazione della cartapesta, dall'inizio alla fine, vedendo l'applicazione di tecniche e materiali tradizionali sostenuti da una costante ricerca e viva sperimentazione.

Il nostro laboratorio si avvale dell'esperienza di lavoratori e collaboratori professionisti sia nel campo artistico e artigianale che in quello storico e filosofico.

Dal nostro laboratorio escono continuamente modelli nuovi che da un lato si rifanno alla tradizione (maschere della Commedia dell'arte e dell'antico Carnevale Veneziano e d'ispirazione settecentesca) e dall'altro nuove fantasie per il Carnevale Veneziano (maschere con le piume, maschere di animali etc.), infine produciamo oggetti teatrali e d'arredo di tutte le misure e le decorazioni.

Abbiamo partecipato con le nostre maschere a realizzazioni di spettacoli teatrali, cinematografici e performances di vario genere conosciuti sia in Itala che all'estero.

Organizziamo stages e dimostrazioni tecnico-pratiche su richiesta sia a singoli che a gruppi.

'Il Canovaccio’, as a place devoted to the workmanship of papier maché, was founded in June 1995, the result of a decade of experience in the sector and a necessity to find a space, not only for display and sale, but where one could, above all, understand how papier maché is made, from the beginning to the end of the process, seeing the application of traditional techniques and materials, supported by constant research and lively experimentation.

Our workshop avails itself of the experience of workers and professional collaborators both in the artistic and craftwork field, as also in the historic and philosophical one.

The models which are created regularly in our laboratory, in part recall the traditions of the masks of the ‘Comedy of Arts’, the ancient Venetian Carnival or are inspired by 18th Century, and on the other hand we produce new designs for the present day modern Venetian Carnival such as the feathered masks, animal masks and so on. Lastly we produce theatrical and home interior objects in all manner of sizes and decorativefinis hes.

With our masks we have taken part in theatrical, cinematographic and various other kinds of performances both in Italy and abroad.Upon request we organize work experience in the laboratory, and technical-practical demonstrations both for individuals and groups
